Overview of Public Private Ownership Overlay
The i-Boating app includes a map layer that shows US wide layer that shows public, private lands with ownership info (where available). This layer is a superset of what is referred to as parcel/plat maps in certain applications. This layer is included as part of the US folio purchase and no new purchases are required to access it.
Public Land Overlay
These are areas owned by public agencies e.g Bureau of Land Management(BLM), US Forest Service (USFS), County Land, State Agencies, Fish & Game Commissions etc etc. Public lands are shown with green outlines in our map overlay.
For e.g. the screenshot below shows that the eastern shoreline of lake Tahoe is accessible from USFS land.

Private Land Overlay
This is also referred to as parcel/ plat maps. This shows detailed ownership info including private lands. Parcel map property lines are shown in red color in our map overlay. Parcel layer include additional ownership attributes - owner name, site address, owner address, total value etc.
For e.g. the screenshot shows how different parts of lake Norman, North Carolina have different owners. You can clearly see one section that is owned by Duke Energy Carolinas LLC. And the section below it is owned by Kiser Jack Leonard Heirs.

Dynamic highlighting of Property Lines
The i-Boating app includes a dynamic overlay that highlights the property lines under the map cursor. A summary about the highlighted property (including GIS acres, total value, ownership etc) are shown in panel on top/bottom of the screen. Tapping on the panel shows more details.
How to enable public private lands overlay?
To turn on this maps, overlay please use the following steps:
- Tap on Layers Button
- Turn on public/private lands
- Tap Save

Why use this overlay?
You can use this layer to quickly check if the access to lake/waterbody is from a public or private land.
As always, Please check for local regulations, required permits, and fishing season dates on the park or wildlife department's website etc.
